Costa Rica Furniture

Almost everyone would agree that the quality of imported furniture is better than locally made furniture. Although there are exceptions this is generally agreed upon. Pricing is also another benefit as imported furniture typically is much cheaper than the locally made counterparts. Finally you can’t beat the selection that a worldwide market has to offer rather then the domestically made furniture manufacturers.

Due to this a good majority of production and manufacturing of furniture in the U.S.A. has vanished. Companies simply couldn’t compete with the variables listed above and were forced to move out. Some of those moved production to Costa Rica.

Costa Rica offers a huge variety of styles with many different wood options to choose from. Wood is easily accessible and affordable for production of furniture. The types of wood include; Guanacaste, Cedar, Cenizaro and Melina among many others.

One of the most important things to watch for when purchasing wooden furniture is the treatment that the wood has had prior to prior to manufacturing. Due to the many different climates involved with Costa Rica and the wood used for manufacturing which can be found in Central Valley is known to shrink and expanding when the items are transported along the coast. For instance, the temperatures along the dry climate of Guanacaste, typically caused the wood to expand and condense causing it to crack. Keep in mind that this typically isn’t the case and that most furniture manufactured in Costa Rica is held to the highest possible standards.

One of the best solutions to this problem is to purchase teak wood. This type of furniture is new to Costa Rica due to the fact that the wood is new to the market. Most teak in Costa Rica is used for outdoor furniture. As stated though teak is new to Costa Rica so don’t expect aged teakfurniture. For that you will want to check out Indonesia’s selection.

You can find just about any type of furniture possible from Costa Rica. Although as once advised from a local not to purchase what would be deemed as ‘comfortable’ furniture. Such as beds, sofa’s, chairs etc. As typically ergonomics and comfort isn’t at the forefront of Costa Rican design. Costa Rican design has influences from Christians and it can be evident from the christian music that comes from this area.

Stick with things like desks, credenza’s, armoire and things of that nature for Costa Rican furniture and you can’t go wrong!  Prices are very competitive for the value and most people are pleased with this type of furniture.
